Sorry, I was so pleased at the picture going in that I forgot to write. That's Dave (in NY), wife Kir, with Holly and MacDuff and a wicked lotta ducks they picked up at a shoot last month on Long Island. Dave in NYC

(If so, that is quite a bag limit!). Did the dogs do all of the retrieving? Looks like a fairly pleasent day -- no really cold water retrieving?

Those are dux the "clients" shot over the course of a morning. These guys pay bucks for a day in a duck blind (they move from blind to blind) with guaranteed ducks ('cause they get released ). We picked up a similar number in the afternoon. Four dogs working, our 2 Airedales, a lab, a golden and a puppy (not really working) spinoni learning the ropes. We're responsible for 1/2 those ducks. There are three technical ponds (means weird shapes) over which we all call birds in. Each dogs splits two blinds of shooters. In October the water is pretty warm. By January it is all frozen over, it's times like tomorrow (when we go again) that present problems. If the ice is dangerous, we go out in a row boat and break up as much as we can. What's solidish and 8am is often thawed at 1.
Spring farm also does "released" pheasant shoots. No tower, they just come outta the woods. That's very "fish in a barrel". They also do walk up huns and pheasant hunts. Nice property, 3rd generation Long Island. The owner's mom breeds labs, the chief guide uses springers. The other guides use drathaurs.
Lots of us work the shoots (for free) and get time on our dogs and some free food or trash birds for training. Once a year there's a "handler's shoot" where they release a buncha birds for us for free. I am a weak shot, but have particularly well behaved dogs.
North fork (another preserve) does English style "driven" shoots, which are all like walk-up retrieves with gunners trying hard not to shoot the beaters or the dogs. This stuff is my reason for all the control. My dogs live in a city and hunt in a giant group grope. They gotta stay focused on their mark and me to be safe and successful.

Great pictures guys. Good looking dogs....all of them. I have to say I am just partial to the males I see here. The all have good solid heads. I have a problem with the narrowness of show heads, especially in the females. Strange thing is, I don't care for the real broad blocky male head on a female either. I do like the females to look like a female but to do that, I have to give up what I do like. I am beginning to think it is easier to get a good male head than it is to get one on a female I like. Oh, I am sorry. I am supposed to be breeding soley for function and not what the heads look like. I almost forgot. Please disregard this post.
