I have a blackmouth cur that hates everything. He has a very high prey drive but most of all he is very territorial. He will attack any strange dog/person that comes into the yard. My neighbor of 7 years is still not welcomed in the yard unless I am outside. I don't know if this dog would protect me off of the property, but in the yard anyone would be hard pressed to touch anything or harm anything. Also I have witnessed all of the other dogs go into attack mode once this dog committs to an attack, At that point the intruder has an airedale, 2 jags and 2 more blackmouth curs all joining in on the attack. I would have to say they are acting out upon an inbred pack/territorial behavior.
Anyone else have any dogs showing similar traits. Also these dogs are not chained but are maintained by an electronic fence, the enclosure is a little over 1 acre.

"he is very territorial"
I have had a lot of these dogs. It is a separate trait. Most dogs that have strong territorial drive are neutral off their turf . One dog I had, Magic illustrated this. Kids could pet him but for adults coming to the house or yard he was poison. In a park or the woods he was indifferent to people.
Same dog as part of the BH character test was placed on a down by me and I was told by the judge to a put a book put in front of him and walk away out of sight. The dog was supposed to remain lying as a stranger ( the judge ) came over and picked up the book. I was called back because though he remained lying down the dog placed one paw over the book and let it be known ,no one was going to pick it up. Never trained this . Just knew what was ours. Should of tested but I think if the judge had left it he may have let him take it.

Hey Mark, Caesar fights with anger. He has a very short temper. I'm not quite sure why because he's the only one in the litter with this temperment. As Don said, you have to test your pups. My wife and I both saw something unique in Caesar, he was the boss from day one. If he wanted to eat he'd pull one of the pups off mom and eat. He was the largest at birth, 1.3 pounds, but he didn't end up the largest, just the most bold. At eight weeks I had all the pups in the yard and the neighbor dog came out so they all ran to the fence to see him...he hates puppies so he charged the fence barking and growling. Everyone ran away but Caesar. He growled, barked and bit the fence. I wasn't suprised but I have to admit I was a little proud of that pup.
He shows his teeth, mostly when I answer the door and it's someone we don't know. He stands up on the door and barks with his lips raised. He doesn't do that with people he knows, only strangers. I haven't discouraged that behavior. I don't want him licking a burgler. Socially agressive??? In what context? He is agressive with other dogs but he's not like the Mals I saw in D.C. last week. Every time I go to D.C. I see more Mals working with police and FBI. Those dogs are agressive. Every car I walked past with a dog in it barked it's head off at me. I have no doubt that if they could get out I'd be bit without any command to do so. I started taking Caesar to State Street, the big college hang out, when he was 6 weeks. By 4 months we were walking the street at bar time. He ignores people now. One guy tried to grab his collar and he raised his lips and warned him not to do that but he'll let people pet him. I can tell he doesn't like it but he tolerates it.
He's very confident. When I took him to Moline to do bitework he was described as almost too confident. We had just started working him with his mom because she alerts to threats really well but she passed away on Sunday so that's been quite a blow to us and has reallly screwed up my plans. I'll start working him with our Tibetan Mastiff away from home. She's a typical TM so she should be able to help. If you know the breed I probably don't have to say anymore about her.
I wouldn't work him in defence without a full bite suit. If he's on the sleeve and you tap his side it makes him mad. He'll drop the sleeve and go after the arm that's hitting him.
He's a great dog but you can't wrestle with him or anything like that. His temper makes things escalate too fast and everything changes from play to him being mad and biting hard. It's just his nature. Most people would hate a dog like him but I feel really lucky to have him. He's the best present I've ever gotten. I sure miss his dad but Caesar is doing a great job of taking over. He's more like Darth Vader than Luke Skywalker but that's ok. Rob

Rob
He sounds nice! I've never had a dog I couldn't wrestle w/though.
The transferring of bites sounds like typical Airedale from what I've seen and been told.
Shoot me an E if you don't mind, Rob.
