I'm becoming interested in a sport type airedale. Does anyone have Sch,ringsport airedales in the US. Also I would like to receive feedback on their agility and bitework (suit-no sleeves). Can they jump like the herders? Do they have high food/tug drives. I have sport dog herders (all compete in ring), and was looking for a non-herding terrier type beside the pitbull.

There are lots of videos of my dog on the suit here. Airedales are very high in prey and would be ideal for Ring, IMO. I know of a couple Brevet Dales and I'm sure there are others who have done more. They aren't retarded tug driven like a Pit but very much respond to the tug. Food? I don't use it but would say like any dog they like it,lol. Agility... anything Ring can throw at them they can handle. IMO, there are a lot more Dales capable of sport than there are Dales capable of more serious work. Any SchH bred Dale should do just fine at Ring and there are a fair amount of SchH Dales around. The biggest problem w/the SchH bred Dales use in ring will be their shorter stature making the palisade a bigger obstacle than it really is. Ed who posts here has a SchH III Dale. Mine is titled in PSA which is a suit sport. Mine was actually working legs on the suit about an hour ago! If Ed bred Grace to Bear you'd have a tall enough dog dying to do ring!

Ed, what is a "bigger dog"? Looks good, I wonder if the uncut tail helps with the balance. By the way, how high is that wall? 3 1/2 to 4 feet? I got dogs that can clear that! ;D ;D

I am supposing that the wall is to illustrate the dog is capable of following the perk if he should try evasive maneuvers.

Mark, what PSA club do you work with or trial did you go too ( I have friends who love PSA)? Are their any Airedale folks in Texas. I perfer a rangy leggy dog, however not a big 100 pounder. HiCNRTY the wall is 8ft in ring at the level 3's, its right below 6ft at the level 1s. thanks a lot for ya'lls responses.

Thanks DF. The wall in that picture looks to be quite a bit below 6 feet. Eight ft is a wall. How many people could get over an 8" wall even to evade a dog? Seems to be a stretch.

Don, the wall he's talking about is the A-frame the dog runs up and over, the jump you see the dog flying over is 1.5 meters in Schutzhund. I've only seen a couple dogs in my life who could jump a 6 foot fence and I've yet to see one that can jump an 8 foot fence. Rob

Thanks for clarifying that Rob. Had me worried to say the least. This is what you are talking about.

dafields,
I don't know of any Airedale people in TX unfortunately. I run my own "club" where I train PP, PSA and other stuff. I titled my dog at a club here in PA {Quakertown}. There was no PSA club here at the time, but I helped set up the event. You like leggie?...my dog is rather leggie @ 27 inches and MAYBE 70lbs! If Don's dogs were PP candidates{yet, undetermined} I'd actually prefer dogs built like them, all things being equal. Bear is the first and only {to date} PSA titled Airedale. Love to see a second one get in there!
Rob, the wall we're talking about is not the A frame. It's a verticle wall and I think the palisade in FR actually goes up to 9ft. My 160lb Neo could do 8ft and my OE Sheepdog could scale tennis court fences!!!!!!!
Don, an 8ft wall isn't hard for a human to get over, even for a short guy like me.

Mark,
Do you happen to know any trainers for PP or PSA on the West Coast preferably Northern California that have experience with Airedales? For me it would be good to network with trainers close by especially if I want to get into that arena.
Thanks!

doyle & dafields, Check out this sight www.psak9.org/ There is a tab at the top you can click for clubs. There are clubs in CA & TX. You can post on that mess board & some of the other PP boards to see who's around you. You might even check into some of your local trainers. Find a good one, outline what you're trying to do...train w/them, and only travel to trial. I'd be happy to talk to any prospective trainers for you guys during the interview process. m_baldassarre@yahoo.com if you need me.

Thanks Mark, I had looked at that site a week or so ago. Don't worry I'll contact you if I need any advice and definitely contact you before talking with a trainer.
Thanks again!!

Mark I'd love to see a vid of that. Does the wall have slats? Is it at a 90 degree angle? I've seen Tibetan Mastiffs leap over six foot chain link but they're grabbing the top of the fence with their front paws and almost pole vaulting themselves over. Rob
