There is an old lion hunter down the hill from me. He has done most of his hunting in Idaho, and has several nice mounts. If you are interested, I'll ask him if I can give you his phone number.

Curt- do you have a phone #, what I can tell you will take me forever to type. You can e mail it to me at Airedalesblack@aol.com. 1. I would never just throw him in on a cat, pre-trainning is a key to the dogs survival. 2. There are several ways to pre-train, non I can mention here. 3. An Airedale w/o trainning will just go diving in, not smart. 4. There is no dog too old that cannot be trained.

Oh Curt, did I forget to mention When hunting dangerous game, with an airedale. The first sign you have that he is cut out for dangerous game is he survived the first three or four hunts. Tree game is a tad safer, but, never jump a lion out more than twice. Ask Bob what may happen. You don't want a couple of dogs catching them on the ground. Or I personally think you should bring Gator here and we will do hogs together. Is he a fast learner? Guarantee you, if he goes back with you, he will scare the handler. What you do is take a piece of stinky old hog hide back with you and when the handler isn't looking, put it in the sleeve, step back, and watch the handler defend himself.

Curt- he will do just fine in what he is trained to do. If you have your heart and head set on cat, use the methods we discussed and see if he's up to it.

I think the first thing you will want is for your dog to go with the Hounds . I know that was the first for me, until the first tree than they will know what the Hounds are doing. TRAPPER

I know that my Airedale (father of Winchester and Remington) was a going type of dog. He went with the hounds about 10 minute and came back. The hounds .leftout and Malvini and i were walking the direction they had to go. About 2 hours later my Cur Dog came to me. He did this when he needed me ,came up to me ,made sure that I saw him and then went the way he wanted me to go. The Airedale left with him,and in a few minutes we could hear them. They were having a hell of a fight with the bear and everyone left out where we couldn,t hear them. Hitting a road we caught a ride with a Forest Service truck back to our trucks. Malvini went one way and I the other. After about i5 minutes I couldn,t hear them and came back to Phil,s truck. I could hear the dogs and started into them. About then the bear came down and the dogs had ahold of him when he went over a 7foot log, knocking all the dogs off. Phil said when he got there the Airdale had his feet on the tree and really telling the world about it. He got several pictuers of the Bear going around the tree and then coming out right into the Hounds and Airedale. The Airedale was the first to get his hold and from then on he wanted the Bear.
