Speaking of prey drive here is what my AD is now doing. I live in a rural area. Mostly wetlands and sloughs around my home and on my property. Right next to me is a cow pasture. My dog has been barking at the cows and making agressive movements toward them. He has started at them and backed down when they did not move. Now he has them running off when he comes at them. Well yesterday I seen him run at a cow and make a bite on her hamstring and then run them to the end of the 80 acres. I was able to call him back after cutting half the distance on foot. He came to me and I escorted him back to his kennel. This morning I let him out and took him for a long walk before I went to work. He started after the cows and I was able to scold him right then and there. He then left with me and sniffed the woods out very well. A long walk later and he was content. Randy

Curt, I used a long line on my dog "Ace" several times but I might have done something wrong because now he never leaves my side when he has any kind of leash on whether it be short or long. It's when he is off leash that the problems start by totally ignoring me no matter how loud the yelling is. I know he hears me because there is that very slight moment of hesitation or little head cock in my direction and then he's off.
Every other dog I've had could easily be trained to stop whatever they were doing with a one word command but this 'dale is going to require a more drastic form of training other than positive rewards.

Oh yeah Welcome to the board Randy. You're gonna find out that some of these guys have forgotten more about Airedales than most of us will ever know.

Haven't tried it yet........new batteries are on order.
It's gotta be better than throwing rocks. He just tries to retrieve them.
