I am in the process of building a pole barn to house my duck boats, tractor and truck. I am building it myself. I am laying out masonary line to mark the holes for drilling. I had everything pulled tight and was measuring to make sure all was square when the line went limp. I walked around and found the line was broken. I thought this stuff was tuff but oh well and tied a knot and went back to pull it tight. Just as I was tying the line off it goes limp and I look over and my airedale had bit the line in two again. Its was not as funny last night as it is today. I went to have a talk with him and he must have sensed trouble and headed back around the front of the house. The worst part of this whole incident is the fact he smells like a skunk. I fell asleep on the couch sunday night after driving back from Louisiana all day. I woke up around 2130 and thought oh my gosh he has been loose all afternoon without supervision. I went out side on the front porch and called for him. A few minutes later here he came with a dead skunk in his mouth. I could smell him before I seen him. Boy is he a mess. I still love him. Randy

Mix 1 qt bottle of hydrogen peroxide with 1/4 cup of baking soda, and a teaspoon of mild dish soap, apply, rinse, wash with pet shampoo. Also old trick of tomato juice poured over dog, wiat a bit, and rinse and shampoo again. Either one works well

This is funny. You folks are talking about methods of clearing your skunk stinch.
I just stopped by a supply store and paid about $6.50 for a bottle of skunk scent concentrate.
I have a neighbor who makes my life miserable on purpose. My 'have-a-heart' trap is already set. His cats are all going to smell like skunks AGAIN, and this time I will keep at it until their home reeks from basement to eaves......
He turns his cats out at night and gives me hell because a couple of my dogs squaw at 'em all night long.
I would use my 'other solution' but for the fact that the neighbor really 'aint all that bad and his kids really love the damned things.
I am getting a kick out of just thinking about hearing my 'buddy' whine about the skunk problems that seems to plague mim.
Hummmmm...plague? I might make him think he is in trouble....he is usually under the weather with one problem or another...
That scent will open up his nasal passages!!!

Thanks for the info on deskunking my dog. I have a better method. Let him swim the slough and Erie Canal in my backyard for a few weeks and clean himself. I am building my pole barn and he sure is funny to watch. He is trying to climb the ladder I'm on and just about has it figured out. My wife complains about me letting him run loose while working on the barn. He takes off with tools and boxes of nails and comes back with a rotten possums he killed. He runs loose most of the time but we have kenneled him during the day because he covers alot of ground and my wife worries about him when he is not in sight. Randy

Randy I love the way Airedales like to help with the tools. Very industrious dogs! I think Iko has a stash of screwdrivers somewhere! [glow=red,2,300]Mel[/glow]

How much time do you think you would save by putting your dog up when you start a project with different items laying around? I go to put stuff down and think for a second and then put the item up high. We have two young billy goats that are being bottle fed. Guess who has the feeding bottles destroyed? Randy
