Although this retrieve looks longer than it is, I would guess it's about 150 yds. I placed a remote controlled "winger" on the point off to the right in the first pic. The winger throws a duck or in this case a "dead fowl trainer" (DFT) into the water from that point of land. In pic 2, Forge has not marked the DFT properly but as I later surmised, he did not see the DFT hit the water due to a branch and leaves in his line of sight...so he swam way left of the fall. However, I was able handle him over to the right toward the fall with a whistle and hand signals. In pic 3, Forge is swimming toward the DFT off the point after taking my caste. In pics 4 through 8, Forge has the DFT and is returning to me on the shore. As you can see this is a long retrieve. In pic 9 he has delivered the DFT to hand and is shaking off. In pic 10, Forge is waiting for his reward...I throw the DFT to him to catch and he will prance off with his prize. This is the first time I was able to get some pics of this sequence because my wife, Lori and our new puppy, Reeser were with me. This training sequence is called a "cheating" single because the dog is able to "cheat" by leaving the water out at the point to return by land. The longer the retrieve the more likely it is that the dog will "cheat".

Forge is looking darn good Ron. You may have to start giving seminars at the nationals. That is pretty country there. Looks close to being a jungle.

Thanks to you both.
Yes Curt, Reeser is just a wee 5 month old Airedale. Forge's dad is her great grandfather on both sides. She is Lori's dog.
Don that lake and the land around it is a state park near our house. Limited hunting is allowed. This training occurred in late September during a warm spell. It stays quite lush in south central PA into October.

Looks like complicated handling and great fun.....Ron...one of these days. I'll find some retriever guys with remote gizmo's and such. Are you duck hunting with him?

Nice retrieve, doesn't look like he cheated. Waterfowl would be right up his alley.
