Scenario: Forge remained steady until all 3 marks were thrown. The distance is approx. 100 yds. The winger for the 1st mark is hidden by the bushes and trees on the left. The mark sequence and locations are annotated on the first photo...except that there was a strong wind blowing right to left which blew the 2nd mark further left and against the bank on the far shore... Forge's View... To 1st mark (last bird thrown)... Pick-up 1st mark... To 2nd mark (2nd mark thrown)... Pick-up 2nd mark... Coming home with 2nd mark... Pick-up 3rd mark (1st mark thrown)... Coming home with 3rd mark... Forge swims past diversion mark... Picks-up diversion mark (4th retrieve)... Good Boy

My puppy is 14 months old and can only dig up gophers. I can't wait until Bailey has enough patients to wait and do what you did. That was amazing! Give me some pointers.

Super work Ron. Way to maintain standards. Through TFM you have demonstrated that the Airedale will learn proper retrieving habits just like the Labradors. You did not wait for Forge's "patience" to developed. You Teach,Force and Maintain Standards to develop a dog that is capable of that kind of work. Pressure is always the way to over come avoidance issues in any bloodline..and you have used it masterfully Daisey Mae if your dog is 14months you had not better wait much longer is you REALLY want a dog like Forge..

Thanks Hal. I agree with you completely. The younger the better. I started Forge at 8 weeks in a trout stream in May. I might add that one cannot Force with any success, if the dog is not first Taught and a standard can not be Maintained unless the dog has been Forced first. The difference between a good trainer and a less skillful one is that the Force is not obvious when viewing the dog at work. It certainly helps, if one starts with a good dog. No small feat. Luck helps.
