We are training often but taking it slow. Still working on the obedience basics. Still working on prey drive promotion. No helper or sleeve work yet. Tracking could be better - I think I need to reinforce the fundamentals. She is still young - 10.5months. More maturity cant hurt. Here are a couple of pics.

Very beautiful, very typical looking Doberdale, lol. I'm kinda making a joke but it's true... they all look just like that.
Get that prong off her, esp during bite work! Try baiting her, and having her make the grab on the tug in air. Try to get her deep and on the center of the tug by practicing "countering" into the tug. That pic may have been during the "out" but still, try to promote a deep centered grip. Have the wife handle the dog while you play helper. That will help your timing and targeting. One idea is to have the misses let the dog drag her to the bite while you flee. A harness would be a good thing to have for that excersize.
Again, she looks beautiful!

Mark - during training she always wears both the prong and fursaver, but I rarely have the prong hooked to the lead. i only hook to the prong when i am proofing obedience - for the sitz and plotz never during bite work.
still working on my skills as a helper - i believe i am getting good instruction at the club - pretty soon I think I'll introduce a real helper and i'll just act as a post.

Great looking dog.
Where and when is the Schutzhund Training Week 2007 I sure wish someone with an Airedale and has Schutzhund experience lived close to us!

Curt,
Thanks for the offer, but we aren't quiet ready for an invitation only event.....but I am optimistic, Mijo might EARN an invitation in the future!
I was hoping it was an event closer to my home. I figure it never hurts to ask and one of these times I will get lucky and there will be an event close enough to home that we will attend and there will be another working Airedale there!

Curt - We'll see how things pan out but at this point I am leaning toward the WCGSSC Work Week - that is, if I can get an invite with my mischling.
Tracking - man what a frustrating aspect. I rushed the fundamentals. Cut back on the food too soon. Now I have a great "trailing" dog that can sprint the track and find the reward at end. I'm going to have to put in the time to fix the problem. A hungry dog with loads of bait to slow her down and keep her nose to the ground - for at least a month or two.

Hey Ryan - I am having the same trouble "tracking" with my GSD. He's trailing, not tracking - could care less about any food on the track. Let me know how it is going with you.
Never heard about "Doberdales" before. Can anyone explain how they came about?

Doitallairedales -
Mark Baldassarre bred his male ADT, Bear PSA1 to his Dobermann bitch Emma. Both dogs are fine examples of each breed. The resulting cross has been dubed "Doberdales"
IMO, its a great cross. Both breeds compliment each other nicely - Ryka, 1 yr this Saturday, has the coloring of an immature Airedale and the coat texture of a hard coated ADT - She could also be considered a Wirehaired Dobermann.
She is a high energy working bred large Terrier. We are training in Sch (not so much lately as there has been snow on the ground and club seems to be taking a break). She has high prey drive and a strong desire to please and work. She seems to be more biddable than a typical Airedale, more inclined to comply, and she can take a hard correction without shutting down or holding a grudge - corrections seems to "bounce" right off of her. No defence shown yet, except for a warning bark and occasional growl toward people at a distance.
All in all, she is a really neat dog, but an immense handful.
My wife and I also have a couch-bred Airedale sweetheart who would prefer to work on her own time schedule =)

Is there a concerted effort to "create" Doberdales, like Labradoodles and such?

Hi, Where are you from? I have an Airedale (Xander) that is working towards SCH1 right now. We live in the Cariboo in BC. The pics are great. How is tracking coming? Tania
