Anybody here use their AD's for coyote decoying? I don't have the time to train mine to do it as I run the small terriers on varmints as much as I can and just use her as a kill dog with them, but I think she'd be a good candidate for it.

I think I could get into it but there isn't anyplace really clear enough and the dogs won't come back I don't think. I tried it a couple of times with the dog tied out but only got a glimpe of the coyote once and he never came out of the trees. The second time the coyote puped up 10 ft behind me in the brush and started backing at the dog. I put a 22 mag in him and cut the dog loose. They got to much cover around here.

I use mine on coyotes, the problem I have witht he AD's is, I think they are alittle intimidating to the coyotes. And with mine, if they start to nip at him he will get very mad and chase them out of the country and if I use the shock collar on him he is done. I would love to use him more on coyotes but he makes a better Bear and Lion dog and I leave the decoying to the Kemmers.

K I have sat back on this for awhile waiting for someone to pipe up my current meathead wont work as a decoy dog do to the fact he has killed a coyote on his own. But I have used many decoy dogs over the years everything from Jadg terriers to mtn curs. Do to the size the adt would be limited to early psring thru early summer (denning months) virtually when coyotes are at the peak of domination and when protecting pups. Alot of people say they use them for decoying(tolling) but I have yet to see one in the field. Paco what kind of Shocker r u using? it sounds as if your making a common mistake If your tring to tone your dog DOnt train it to tone around on your game train it to tone in a different enviroment then ONLY tone him on game nvr shock him because the shock is a corrective measure.
Toning is used for recall. Here is what I do during regualar training ill call him then tone him he gets used to coming when the tone is hit if he doesnt recall hit him with a low jolt when he is consistant then take him to the field and put him on game nvr hit him with the juice while he is decoyoing or you will cause him to shutdown in most cases to many of these will cause him to shutdown on that particular game for good .

I have the TriTronics G2 6 shocker. And that is a common mistake but not one that I have made. I have shocked him off, off game and he has figured it out for himself, pretty smart dog.I wish this was my first rodeo but I do this for a living. Even early spring and summer, some of those coyotes dont want nothing to do with that big ole Airedale and even more so when the hearders are using gaurd dogs. I have just had better luck with Kemmers and I have a half Airedale half Kemmer cur that is working very well for me. But I can get my Airedale to work but if they get too aggressive then it is a done deal cuz he wants to kill them, he has just never figured out the game of decoying like the Kemmers.

PACO you work state or private sector? I know the feeling. With the meathead I use currently, having killed one on his own, he gets 10 ft tall and bullet proof and is definately not something you want in a decoy dog. What line of Kemmers are you using?
And above all welcome to the board

Well know, I do know somthin on Cur Dogs. I have raized them from 1980 and my good friend H. Waddell from around Terribella, Kern Co. has some good dogs he uses for Coyotes. He u,ses both Kemmer and Busher,s for his decoy dogs and swears by them. He was use,n a couple of cow dogs but they got too aggresive and he is satisfied with the Cur Dogs.TRAPPER
