Has there been any interest among Airedale owners to get Dales into the NAVHDA?
Even if Dales are not a listed species for NAVHDA, does anyone know if they can compete at events and get scored, without being qualified for awards or titles?

Back in the 80's I ran german shorthair pointer's in NAVHDA and NSTRA. I don't follow these associations anymore; but at the time I was doing it -- a dog could be of any breed or crossbreed as long as it passed the hunt test. That is why myself and others that I met ran in these trials versus the breed trials and the AKC trials. Especially NSTRA (National Shoot to Retrieve Association) was more interested in a dogs ability versus what kind of dog it was. One of the best dogs I ran against was a english pointer x lab looked like a solid black pointer.

I showed up to a NAVDA training day at a public state game area hoping to make some connections; find a training partner near home. I explained several times that Airedales are in fact hunting dogs... There is a implied "P" for pointer in NAVDA. They include dogs that are versatile that point. Airedales are typically flushing dogs.
I think if we had more pointing Dales we might be able to make a case. Know any?

I think they would allow an airedale to enter he would just be DQ'd if he flushes in a trial just like any other dog would be. I was DQ'd in a trial because my shorthair pointed a rabbit.

navhda.org/testrule.pdfThe breeds that NAVDA "recognizes" are listed here, but I couldn't find anything that excludes other breeds.

NAVHDA is a dog registry as well now. Those breeds listed are the only dogs NAVHDA registers in it's registry. (Kind of like the AKC doesn't recognize alot of breeds) But from my days of trialing in NAVHDA lots of lets say dogs of questionable origins were entered in the trials. And I was never asked to present the Judges/Officials papers on the dog like you must at an AKC event.
I was DQ'd in a trial because my shorthair pointed a rabbit.
Sounds like a versatile dog to me. ;D If we aren't finding birds and my dog trees a squirel or jumps a rabbit and I've got a clear shot.... That's why I've got an Airedale!

My girlfriend has a Lab - and he would much rather chase squirrels than mess with birds. He also sheds like crazy. Both reasons I am looking into Airedales ;D
