I don't hunt but I do have a very simple hunting question. A few weeks ago, I was taking care of a patient at work, and while visiting with her fiance, we started talking dogs. He trains/hunts with Viszlas and of course, we started talking all kinds of dog talk. He takes folks out on hunting trips in Utah, and his dog is his prize. I must have spent 30 minutes watching youtube videos of this breed pointing/flushing/retrieving and I tell you.....I was spellbound. Spellbound enough to put this breed on my short list for my next SAR dog. Could anybody point ( no pun intended) me in the direction of some great youtube videos of Airedales hunting? Being an owner of terriers since 1971, that would really be a sight for me to see. I just drop in the hunting section every blue moon. Thx. Bonnie

Bonnie Before you get to carried away with Viszlas or any other breed. Were these pen raised birds or was this a canned hunt situation? Big difference in a dog working pen raised birds versus wild birds. What type of birds was this dog being used on? Big difference between bobwhite and a sharptailed grouse or pheasant. Also I have never seen a viszla on a consistant basis stack up against the english pointers or german pointers in a field trial. The people I know who had viszlas had to use a gentle approach this breed seemed a little more timid and prone to gun shyness when compared to some of the other breeds.

<<Before you get to carried away with Viszlas or any other breed. >> No worries on being carried away. Interested? Yes. Carried away? That takes ALOT. <<Were these pen raised birds or was this a canned hunt situation? Big difference in a dog working pen raised birds versus wild birds. What type of birds was this dog being used on? Big difference between bobwhite and a sharptailed grouse or pheasant.>> I am not positive but i bdelieve they are NOT canned. He was hunting pheasant. I do remember that <<Also I have never seen a viszla on a consistant basis stack up against the english pointers or german pointers in a field trial. >> No idea on that. Could only go by the videos he referred me to.....these were not HIS videos. They were clips of Hungarian working Viszlas. <<The people I know who had viszlas had to use a gentle approach this breed seemed a little more timid and prone to gun shyness when compared to some of the other breeds.>> The ones I have been around have been relatively sensitive.
