Thanks Alisa. I have never tried working more than one dog at a time. Now I am curious if the do learn faster from observing. If that is true, it may do well to tie them all and work an adult dog that knows the ropes for a few minutes first.....then start with the most tractable pup and so forth.

I knew it true from experience. What I did not realize is that apparently that ability is unique to Airedales (well I never trained anyone else). Here's what another trainer wrote about it:
"I've trained SAR as well as obedience and tracking. Plus I've trained Chessies, labs and small terriers (JRT and Border). I think Airedales get bored with too much repetition. Plus, I have had three Airedales who could watch a problem another dog was working in SAR and learn from the watching itself. I've never had that experience with the other breeds I've trained.
As with anything I think it depends on the dog but I think Airedales brains tend to work a bit differently as they seem to have terrific problem solving skills. So if you bore them to death with repetition, they shut down. Plus, the retention on the Airedales seems a lot better than with the other breeds that require so much repetition."
Unfortunately I do not have his/her name - just some post I came across.

I used to spend too much time with Dale, Jorge, Manuel, Robert and the gang but "Dr" Dale Barber was a real piece of work. To describe his as a character would be generous, but mostly he was harmless but smart. He claimed to be a physician for the WHO--but, of course--they never heard of him. He couldn't tell the truth about anything if his life depended upon it. He lost his AKC privileges because he regularly slapped papers on dogs that had none--among other things. Eventually Dale finally died from the heart attack he had been having for more than a decade. I am not sure what happened to Jorge Trevino.
