I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with Baden K9 in Niagara Falls, NY area. Primarily a GSD/Malinois breeder/trainer but also now producing some Airedales. I've seen some on-line buzz (bad) about Baden and I'm not looking to start any bashing. I just want to know if anyone has seen their dogs or knows anything about their working abilities. Thanks.

Canada has a TV show called "Top Dogs". Top Dogs had a 1 hr episode called "10 best protection breeds".
Airedale was #8 of 10. Baden dogs were featured for the Airedale segment. Showed the dogs doing bite work and walking a high swaying rope and plank bridge. (Mals were running across it, the Airedale was carfully taking his time).
I shipped the video to Mark Baldassarre (he is on this board). Mark was unimpressed with the footage of the Baden ADTs doing bite work. I took another look and saw shallow bites with frequent regripping. Mark may add more to this on what he saw.

Curt,
Send me what you have in an email as well please.
I heard from a couple people that Baden does have some good dogs. Those who told me so, feel it's the way they are {not} trained that creates the sh!tty bite work. If the Dales in the show Ryan's talking about {doing "bitework"} were typical dales...I'd never own an Airedale! The Mals in the show were Baden's also. Not the best bite work, but very good agility etc. Based on the commentary in the show and the performance of the dales shown {during the show}, Baden has no idea how to train Dales. The breed is cautious and stubborn but...come on! They apparently consider that acceptable... and it's NOT. I can prove otherwise, lol.
It's a real shame, because I would have loved to have an outlet for working Dales.
Someone I know claims to have tested some other dogs from there. Not Dales. One was a Rot from what I remember. He said the dog sh!t himself. I hope he meant that figuratively.
I have NO first hand experience with the breeder other than talking to them via phone.
You can buy videos from Baden. They have no samples vids of their dogs...hmmm. I do, and I'm not selling anything. If your willing to shell out the money for the vids, you can judge for yourself. The television show Ryan referred to should have depicted the best they have...if so, that's disgusting.
Someone who claims to have known the Airedale in the tv show told me; the dog is a good dog who had poor training. They also claimed the footage was edited. On that note; I'd be happy to work their dogs anytime, free of charge.

I noticed right off with hogs that dales were not like the pits catching hogs. They did shift their bite, namely if you stepped in a grabbed a young hog to keep them from killing it, they immediately shifted their bite to the point of contact where you had grabbed the hog. They were definitely grabbing the hog when they did this but twice, not once but twice, they got a piece of my hand. The second time the pad of the thumb, with the fingerprint, was all but removed by a canine. I quickly decided that, even though Airedales catch hogs, I was better off keeping my hands out of it because they don't catch like pits. I would think they could be trained to hold a good bite. How is Bear, Mark. Maybe Ed will comment on Brisco's bite also. Untrained, yes, they shift for better holds all through the fight with hogs but there is little to hold onto with a hog.

Don,
Bear's grip is excellent. The only time he will transfer is if he thinks he's vulnerable to an attack in a given position or thinks he can score some more points in the fight. An example would be- if he's on a decoy's leg and the decoy pressures from above, he would let go and nail the offending arm. Not too much now but naturally that's the way he was.
When I first tested him with the suit, he went for the offending hand when the decoy grabbed my daughter. He has never gone near my hand while it was near his face either on a person or another dog.
I hoist him up trees while he holds a tug or jute roll. I am actually working on a repelling scenario where I lower him down a wall while he holds the rope in his mouth. So grip is good, lol.

Brisco is like most sport dogs when playing the game. They target the sleeve and don't do much in the way of changing the grip(lose points if they do). Much more of a lock on kind of grab. As a young dog if he attempted to readjust his grip, sleeve would be pulled away. He learned not to let up pressure. I think his natural instinct is grab and regrab and I saw this rough housing with him as a young dog. Playing with me then he was tricky, and legs ,body, and whatever was targeted. Don't do it any more as it made rude behavior with others. (ahem)
As you can probably guess I avoid increasing the realism of what he does and want to keep him "sporty." just my way and its no knock on PSA or what others do.
Still want him boxing with Marquis of QUEENSsBERRY rules but have no doubt he could handle himself with the gloves off.

Welcome to the board doitall, don't mind Curt, this isn't the first thing his computer didn't show. It doesn't show Katy's pictures, and several other things. I am all for him making a list to check on what he can't see so he knows. ;D ;D

Ithaca NY, huh? Goodness, Do-It-All, Ithaca isn't all that far from Niagara Falls, is it?
If I were that close, I would just run over to their place and see what they would show me!!!
A few years ago, I drove from Baltimore to a kennel of a certain breed that I like, that was located in Poughquag NY...And that was a pretty darned good jump!!
I did'nt even tell them I was coming..but I drove home with a pup.
People that have nothing to hide will welcome you and your questions.
By the way Do-it-All, welcome!!! Good to see new blood.
We have had "Know-It-All" here for a good while...
Someone that is willing to ask questions is refreshing, in contrast to those that have all the answers. lol
