Guys/Gals
What's the best way to stop the dam's milk production?
I am fasting her today...that's the only way {I} know of.
I weaned these pups before 4wks because 1. they could, and 2. it's supposed to make natural-compulsive retrievers of them.
In my past breedings, milk would taper off due to gradual reduction in suckling over a longer period time.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks Mark

Susu started weaning hers at about 3 weeks. I started them on soaked puppy food and am trying to gradually reduce the water and increase the food. They eat like teenage boys! And these babies have TEETH now! Susu was uncomfortable with being so full of milk, and she decided that nursing was still neccesary, though uncomfortable in itself. As an aside, be sure to cut those puppy nails or they will rip mom's restaurant all up. I use a people nail trimmer and just clip off the hooks. Since Mom is not with the pups for the most part of the day now, the nursing IS the interaction that is teaching the babies the things they need to know - like you're too rough, you're biting too hard, get out of my space, etc. Anyway, her milk production has gone way down, even though she is still nursing twice a day. I've let her tell me how to do the weaning. [glow=red,2,300]Mel[/glow]
