Hello, what age do you start leash training and what is the best way? My pup is 8 weeks old. I put the leash on him to see how he would act but once I started to try and lead him he started pulling back, crying and then wouldn't move. I didn't start pulling him because I didn't want to ruin the chance of leash training. I have had success with just letting him have the leash on and walk around the house by himself (with me watching). Thanks for your help.

Snappy - Leash training can start at any age. You can attach it and just let the pup drag it around behind him to get him familiar with it. Always supervise to avoid a nasty accident or hang-ups. GENTLE tugs can help encourage the pup to follow but try and use your voice more. As you have found, don't be surprised if your pup sits down and refuses to move if tugged on. The leash is great to make sure the pup doesn't get far from you while you are training. IMO (in my opinion) using treats to lure a pup into position (laying foundation) at this age is not a detriment. 'Sit' and 'come' can be taught easily using treats - just make sure you quit the treats in a few months. Dont forget to use toys for motivation! Making a pup toy happy at this age will only benefit you down the road. Here is some vid of me and my pup. The obedience is very sloppy (multiple commands, anticipation from the dog, poor 'outs') but you get the idea how you can use toys to motivate. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYHs5DE3B6swww.youtube.com/watch?v=uhBWH0oVKNA
