I've never seen this before, but Sheba has a creamy white discharge with a tiny bit of blood coming from her vagina. It has been almost a month since she was bred. Seems too much time has gone by for an infection to get going from the breeding, but I am not sure. There was a spot last night on a blanket where the terriers were chewing on nylabones, and I thought it was one them, but now I'm thinking it might have been Sheba. She seems fine otherwise, and I plan to take her into the vet first thing tomorrow, but I am tempted to take her to emergency tonight.
Sheba is a lot different than the den terriers and GWPs I have raised in the past. Just don't know what to expect. Any advice?

Whatever it was, Sheba is fine now. I will be watcher her closely for the next week though. The vet said it could be a nonviable fetus, but those are usually mummified. Could also be a vaginal infection, but it was a bit of a long time to show up, if it was the result of the breeding. Don't know how else she could have got a vaginal infection.
Anyway, no fever today, only a trace of a discharge, and the vet could not find any problems in and around her uterus and vagina. All seems to be well so far.

sounds like inflamation of the uterus, have vet check, could loose litter if left untreated

Pete, with the amount of traveling you were doing, I would check for a temp and make sure it isn't a urinary tract or bladder infection. I would think the vet would have checked that but who knows, since she is pregnant, he may have gotten side tracked. Watch her when she is peeing.....should be able to tell.

The vet did a pretty thorough exam, and her temp was normal. She never did look or act sick, and now there is no discharge at all (and there was a lot Sunday night!). Still keeping a close eye on her though! I'll let you know if anything changes.

No problems what-so-ever! Actually, feeling a bit frisky in the colder (high 30's) weather here!

You better be careful I lost a litter of Blackmouths to a bitch that had similar symptoms. One vet said it was nothing -- the other said it was Canine Herpes when she aborted.

I do most of my own vet work after 30 years, including stitching them up. Anything that I feel requires a vet's attention, I take very seriously!

Pete, i was not implying you did not take this seriously, I was just stating that anything can happen in a pregnancy, and usually does

I have never heard of it before. I did do some reading on it. From what I read, it seems to be fairly common virus, but some dogs immunity systems don't have enough protection against it.
